Help!!! I want to import my spitfire!!! |
|---|---|
| Hi. I wonder if anyone can help. I recently inherited my fathers Triumph Spitfire 1500. He always wanted it to be brought to france where he has a holiday house. We live in France and I have brought it out here to do exactly that. I am SO confused at what I need to do. I am hoping it is simple, but knowing French Bureaucracy... (I love everything else about living here) Can anybody give me a step by step. Because I am a buffoon and without this I KNOW I will mess it up. Many thanks. Ben. Living in the (86) |

| Hello Ben, French Bureaucracy is a beloved inheritance from the days when Napoleon wanted to beat England everywhere. He clearly succeeded when it came to be the country with the worst public service - Dear old Wellington, never here when you need him! But as Pas_Volay says, you'd better do this quickly, you never know how things will turn out with the Brexit. If you read French, have a look here: http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/services-aux-citoyens/preparer-son-retour-en-france/formalites-douanieres/article/l-importation-en-france-d-un and there: http://immatriculation.ants.gouv.fr/Vos-demarches/Immatriculer-un-vehicule-d-occasion-en-provenance-de-l-etranger/Pieces-a-fournir-pour-un-vehicule-d-occasion-precedemment-immatricule-dans-l-Union-Europeenne2 Basically, it says you will have to ask the tax office closest to your French home for a tax certificate named «certificat fiscal modèle 1993 VT REC» (pardon my French). In order to obtain it, you will need copies of your V5 and of the car sale agreement (in your case, I suppose it will have to be some kind of official document telling you inherited the car from your father). Some certified translation work may be required, they will tell you if that's the case. Then you will have to use that 1993 VT REC tax certificate, to open a registration request on http://ants.gouv.fr/monespace/ ; along with: - a valid and recent MOT or French «Certificat de contrôle technique» (less than 6 months old); - a French proof of address (Electricity bills do the job); - the V5; - a sizeable dose of patience. If you need any more help, feel free to ask. We all have to deal with our dear French Bureaucracy from time to time, so we know how it is. Note that to satisfy to the British Bureaucracy, you will also need to send the "Notification of permanent export" stub on your V5 to the DVLA (They probably have a page somewhere on their website explaining how to do that). |
